Why Morocco is such a wonderful place to explore
Morocco’s heart beats with the friendliness of its people, creating an atmosphere where serenity and kindness are as abundant as the country’s vibrant landscapes. It is very save for travelers and the infrastructure is well maintained througout the country. A crossroads of civilizations, Morocco’s multifaceted history is whispered in the echoes of four main languages—Arabic, Berber, French, and Spanish — each telling tales of the past and the cultural amalgamation unique to different regions. Of course, many people also speak English. From the undulating Sahara dunes to the rugged Atlas peaks, the country unfolds like a kaleidoscope, each twist revealing a new pattern of natural splendor. In the buzzing labyrinths of Marrakech and the ancient scholarly streets of Fes, the rich culture pulsates through bustling souks, majestic palaces, and the rhythmic call to prayer, painting a vivid tapestry of Moroccan life that is as intricate as it is inviting.
Sensory Voyage to the Merzouga Desert
The journey to the Merzouga desert is a feast for the senses. You will never get bored as you drive over high mountain passes on well-maintained roads through an ever-changing and vast landscape dotted with old towns nestled in the mountains next to palm oases and towering gorges framing the way to a desert camp. During your drive, with many stops for photos, tea, coffee, or lunch, you will have the opportunity to collect exceptional souvenirs of the artistry of vibrant carpets, traditional desert clothing, colourful shawls, intricate silver jewellery, and high quality local argan oil products.
Once you reach the desert, your experience is enhanced by the private 4×4 Landcruiser, which switches into dune mode to take you quickly to the highlight of the day, when you begin a desert glamping experience among the sandy dunes. Sunset camel rides, a visit to the nomads or the thrill of quad biking or sand boarding will bring the desert to life before you enjoy the mesmerising stillness of the desert nights around an open fire and in your comfortably furnished tent.
Fes: A Cultural Immersion Amidst Historical Grandeur
The journey to Fes is a transition from desert serenity to cultural immersion, crossing the Middle Atlas Mountains with spectacular views. In Fez, the ancient heartbeat of Morocco beats through the Fès medina, the Al-Qarawīyīn mosque and the geometric splendour of the Attarine medersa. Rest at the beautiful Karawam Riad, which offers restful nights and energetic mornings in splendour.
Chefchaouen to Tamouda Bay: Picturesque Serenity
Chefchaouen’s blue-washed buildings are a photographer’s paradise, with delicious bakery treats everywhere and spectacular walks or hikes in the surrounding mountains, before spending your final nights at the magnificent Banyan Tree Tamouda Bay, a pinnacle of luxury offering a peaceful retreat in lavish suites with private pools, mouth-watering dining options and a wide private hotel beach strewn with beautiful shells.
The final leg of the journey will take you to Tangier’s Sea-or Airport, from where you will depart with a treasure trove of memories and a longing to return to the embrace of Morocco.
Best Time to Travel Morocco
Generally, the most pleasant times to visit Morocco are during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to October).
During these months, the weather is typically mild and enjoyable. In the spring, temperatures range from 13°C to 24°C (55°F to 75°F), making it a wonderful time for exploring the cities and the countryside, as the landscape is lush and green. Autumn also offers comfortable temperatures, ranging from 14°C to 28°C (57°F to 82°F), ideal for sightseeing and experiencing Morocco’s rich culture without the extreme heat of the summer months.
Summers (June to August) in Morocco can be very hot, especially in the desert regions and the interior cities like Marrakech and Fes, where temperatures can soar above 38°C (100°F). Coastal areas, like Essaouira and Tangier, tend to be cooler due to the Atlantic breeze.
Winters (November to February) are generally mild but can be cold at night, especially in the desert and mountain areas. In the Atlas Mountains, snowfall is common, and temperatures can drop to 0°C (32°F) or lower, offering opportunities for winter sports.
For those interested in beach holidays, the summer months offer warm, sunny days, ideal for relaxing on the beaches along the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts. For trekking in the Atlas Mountains, spring and autumn are the best times, with clear skies and comfortable temperatures.
Overall, when planning your travel to Morocco, it’s important to consider the specific regions you want to visit and the activities you wish to undertake to choose the best time for your journey.
